What is it?
Beautiful Oceans Coral Reef Adventures are location-specific marine biology programs with integrated GPS coral reefs maps that allow scuba divers and snorkelers to get more out of each dive or snorkel. By learning more about coral reefs and the creatures that call the reef their home before taking the plunge, your in-water experience will be significantly enhanced, leaving you with vivid memories, increased knowledge and state-of-the art reference materials that can be used over and over again on future dives.
“Seeing a 3-dimensional map of the coral reef I’m going to dive before I get into the water, and then carrying a submersible map with me meant I was never lost. More importantly, it tells me where I can look for certain specific creatures in the water during the dive. It’s like nothing I have ever seen before!”
Jeff Toorish, Underwater photographer and journalist
Have you ever asked yourself questions like “What is this elongated fish doing upside-down in the gorgonian bushes?” or “Why is this little yellow fish chasing me instead of darting away when I come a bit closer?“ or “Why do most sharks have to swim all the time – even when they sleep?”
Coral reefs give rise to innumerable questions that often remain unanswered. Beautiful Oceans trained Science Instructors help you better understand how the coral reef functions. Our Science Instructors have been trained to provide you with coral reef biology dive briefings and will guide you on underwater tours, point out coral reef features of special interest and show you creatures you never imagined existed. 3D coral reef maps will help you find your way on the reef, while Creature Discovery kits will help you identify creatures and give you a better understanding of their fascinating behaviors.
What do Beautiful Oceans Coral Reef Adventures consist of?
Local Beautiful Oceans Coral Reef Adventures are generally offered in two formats:
The Scientist is an in-depth program comprised of a 1.5h in-class presentation and an open-book knowledge review leading to the issuance of a ‘Coral Reef Guardian’ certification card. Your Beautiful Oceans Science Dive & Snorkel Center will also provide you with a Scientist Adventure Pack consisting of coral reef biology dive briefings, a collector’s binder, a printed program manual, a selection of colorful Creature Discovery Kits, 3D coral reef maps, submersible pocket dive slates and a submersible handbook for your pocket dive slates. A Science Instructor will lead the snorkel tours, indicate points of special interest on the reef and help
you identify coral reef creatures and their fascinating behaviors.
The Explorer format leaves out the in-class portion, knowledge review and certification card. It focuses mainly on the snorkeling experience. The Explorer Adventure Pack consists of coral reef biology snorkel briefings, a collector’s binder, a selection of colorful Creature Discovery Kits, 3D coral reef maps, submersible pocket dive slates and a submersible handbook for your pocket dive slates. A Science Instructor will lead the snorkels, indicate points of special interest on the reef and help you identify coral reef creatures and their fascinating behaviors.
You can add Creature Discovery Kits and 3D coral reef maps to your collection at any time – make sure you always have a Creature Discovery Kit for each critter that you plan to observe in-water! Visit our online store to learn more about available products.
“The Discovery Maps are amazing! I mean, I am used to these kind of stick figure sketched maps that the wonderful Instructors manage to come up with from their years of snorkeling the reef, but to get this 3D GPS reef map that gives you a picture to have in your head before you even hit the water is amazing!”
Amy Luna, Advanced Diver
